Helping Hand for Survivors, Inc. was co-founded in 2012 by Kashoro Nyenyezi and Dr. Jean Claude Luhere . Each of the founders themselves are survivors of the atrocities by the militia during war in their home country of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Witnessing and living through the terror of Congolese war crimes, and then escaping to asylum in the United States has evoked in these founders a deep empathy and compassion to dedicate their lives to organizing relief and mental health care for rape and HIV victims as well as raising funds for health, education, and family placement for the unwanted and abandoned children from these rapes. Most of these children are suffering from malnutrition and the diseases resulting from it.
Additionally, they have developed a coordinating team in the Congo that is working to save lives. More recently, these two co-founders have focused on the emotional trauma of rape by taking coursework to enable them to wisely facilitate the divine emotional healing needed in the psyches of trauma victims, reducing the number of suicide victims, and fight malnutrition among survivors. Dr. Jean Claude and Kashoro Nyenyezi make intermittent trips to the Congo to work alongside and give hope to the community of families they are nurturing.
Helping Hand for Survivors exists to aid and expedite the recovery of victims in war torn communities. HHS focuses upon overall wholeness of the individual by assisting victims to regain strength of mind through teaching mental and emotional healing while simultaneously providing nutrition and medical services for their bodies. Furthermore, HHS emphasizes community by bringing a sense of belonging to the unwanted children born out of rape by placing them in nurturing homes and building schools to educate these rejected and forgotten ones.
