Story About Us

Where it all began

Helping Hand for Survivors, Inc. was co-founded in 2012 by Kashoro Nyenyezi and Dr. Jean Claude Luhere . Each of the founders themselves are survivors of the atrocities by the militia during war in their home country of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Witnessing and living through the terror of Congolese war crimes, and then escaping to asylum in the United States has evoked in these founders a deep empathy and compassion to dedicate their lives to organizing relief and mental health care for rape and HIV victims as well as raising funds for health, education, and family placement for the unwanted and abandoned children from these rapes. Most of these children are suffering from malnutrition and the diseases resulting from it.

Additionally, they have developed a coordinating team in the Congo that is working to save lives. More recently, these two co-founders have focused on the emotional trauma of rape by taking coursework to enable them to wisely facilitate the divine emotional healing needed in the psyches of trauma victims, reducing the number of suicide victims, and fight malnutrition among survivors. Dr. Jean Claude and Kashoro Nyenyezi make intermittent trips to the Congo to work alongside and give hope to the community of families they are nurturing.

Helping Hand for Survivors exists to aid and expedite the recovery of victims in war torn communities. HHS focuses upon overall wholeness of the individual by assisting victims to regain strength of mind through teaching mental and emotional healing while simultaneously providing nutrition and medical services for their bodies. Furthermore, HHS emphasizes community by bringing a sense of belonging to the unwanted children born out of rape by placing them in nurturing homes and building schools to educate these rejected and forgotten ones.

Our Mission

Helping Hand for Survivors, Inc., exists to educate, support and advance the recovery and healing of stigmatized women, girls and children surviving and living in the poorest communities affected by conflicts in the Congo.

Helping Hand for Survivors, Inc., shall focus on the overall wholeness of an individual by assisting women, girls, and children victims of war, to regain the strength of mind and body through teaching spiritual and physical healing while simultaneously providing nutrition and medical services, leading to self-sufficiency.  Helping Hand for Survivors, Inc., shall emphasize community and family by bringing a sense of belonging to the unwanted children born out of rape by placing them in nurturing homes and building schools to educate the youth, especially girls.

Our Vision

we envision the next generation in developing countries to empower and educate communities to become self-sufficient, especially women/girls and children.

Our approach

to support women/girls and children in Democratic Republic of Congo by empowering the impoverished communities with the skills and mind-sets needed to realize their own potential and become leaders prepared to build their communities.

Our Values

Helping Hand for Survivors values integrity, accountability, equality, honesty, and loyalty.

Our members must possess in their being strong rectitude so that that integrity is reflected in the conduct of disbursement of funds and supplies directly to and for the good of the afflicted. Furthermore, all members within Helping Hand for Survivors, Inc. will be equally respected with human dignity. It is our conviction that we cannot eradicate oppression in war-torn communities if a spirit of unity and mutuality does not prevail within Helping Hand Survivors. Moreover, those whom we serve must be disbursed to in equal share and HHS shall remain accountable in every activity it engages in.  Finally, HHS demands loyalty from its members to remain firm in our conviction, to dispense health care along with emotional/spiritual nourishment even in adverse circumstances and sacrifices to self.
